We LOVE hearing about workplace wellness programs across Central Florida — but we need your help to recognize the great work that Executives and others are doing. Please take a moment and submit your story and we’ll share it with the world! Plus, you’ll get some great benefits just for participating in the Central Florida Executive Challenge.

My Name is Dale McGough, Safety Manager, here at Gatorland. I would like to nominate our CEO, Mark McHugh, as an executive who encourages me to continue to find ways that will connect with our staff to bring about a healthier more energetic employee.
He has given me free reign to find innovative ideas which will combine exercise with community interaction. So far we have assisted with building a home with Habitat for Humanity. We continue to work with the American Heart Association in the annual Heart Walk in Orlando as well as offering public CPR and First Aid classes here at the Park. I find a hardy Team every January to rise up early and attend a Water Stop at the annual Walt Disney World Marathon.
We put together a huge amount of energy and person power to work with the American Cancer Society and set up our booth at the annual Relay For Life – Hunters Creek event. Our staff also gives very personally when we offer our bi-annual Blood Drive here at the Park. We all understand that it is healthy to rebuild our blood supply on occassion. We also hdave fun and exercise by inviting all employees to come out and bowl at our Gatorland Bowling League.
And, in the fall we hit the diamond with our co-ed softball team as part of a local softball league. The opportunities are there, if one chooses, to stay fit and give back to our community as well. So, you can see that my boss is a giver and, by the way, gets personally involved in many of these programs and does not just open the proverbial wallet.
After attending an American Heart Association Fit Friendly luncheon I hatched the idea of a new healthy initiative for Gatorland. Our new program started in June and will wrap up in September. The Gatorland Gets Fit plan is a weight reduction program that was overwelmingly accepted. Those taking part starts at the top from Mark McHugh, CEO, through management and supervisors and throughout the line operations in every department of the Park. I was so excited to see the response! We have offered a nice selection of prizes for those who have a high percentage of body weight loss. We also help the participants with a weekly e-mail offering ideas for both heart healthy recipes and physical conditioning. They can continue to stay on track with our ongoing encouragement as well as our “Weigh-In Wednesday”.
We did just complete a Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon local fund raiser with employees and their families supporting the Junior Achievement program. We are also putting together a co-ed team to compete in a Relay For Life softball tournament fundraiser. I also want to say that 1/4 of the Gatorland staff have signed on to the Gatorland Gets Fit initiative.
It’s all about having fun and staying or getting healthy.
